Tell or Do?

It is widely known that students, both adults and young learners, need to know the benefits of learning a foreign language. But are these benefits shown to them in the same way?

What I have heard in my adult classes is: “The teacher did that in our class“, while in my children classes I have often heard : “The teacher said that...”.

What do we have to do as instructors is to find the way to communicate these benefits, by telling them or doing so. We have to lead the way, to take them to the unbeaten path, to the one that will help our students succeed. No matter what techniques we use, as long as these techniques work to reach our goal, we can say that doing or telling are both important.
