I read the lesson plan on bringing Gatsby into the EFL classroom, and I find the idea of introducing a literary work into an EFL class very interesting. I have used similar techniques with my students, but with shorter extracts from famous novels, which were read by the students in class. After the reading, students were required to answer questions related to the extract.

Reflecting on a class I was teaching last week, I would say that short stories or novel excerpts in an EFL class can be very useful in axplaining the Past Perfect. After the class I mention, I went on to teach an Am. literature seminar where I realized how many examples I could have used to illustrate that verb form from the previous class.
Moreover, as you say Erjon, literary texts can be very useful in many ways in class.

Yes, I agree with you both. literary texts are really useful because first of all students are attracted from short stories and what’s more they improve their reading and comprehension skills. I want to add that when I’ve assigned students to retell the story I’ve noticed that this help students to improve their speaking skills too, and to create logical sentences in english.
